Friday 1 March, Friday 22 March, Friday 10 May, Whitchurch (CE) VA Primary School, Ross on Wye

This Work Group will focus on increasing practitioners’ subject and pedagogical knowledge, ensuring they can deliver mathematical concepts with confidence. Participants will access high-quality Early Years professional development resources, including those produced to complement the CBeebies Numberblocks series.

Who will be leading the group?

Fiona Wood

Fiona is an NCETM PD Accredited lead and experienced Primary Maths Subject leader, with MaST qualification. She has been part of the national working party to develop this EYFS Development work group.

Fiona was successful in being selected as one of several Primary Maths Specialist Teachers for Salop and Herefordshire Maths Hub. She has undertaken extensive Primary Maths research of different educational systems, including working collaboratively with and hosting teachers from Shanghai.

Elizabeth Chaplain

Elizabeth is an experienced EYFS practitioner and lead.  She is taking the NCETM EYFS PD Lead Accreditation this year.

Who is it for?

This national project is aimed at those who are new to Early Years, or with limited EY maths experience and training.

What are the intended outcomes?

New practitioners and those with limited experience will increase their own subject knowledge and develop effective pedagogies around EY maths teaching. Through understanding the principles and pedagogies of EY best practice, practitioners will be able to provide children with access to deep mathematical understanding.

More experienced practitioners will increase their knowledge base, engage with research, analyse their own practice and collaborate with peers. They will be able to share their new knowledge and approaches with colleagues to increase levels of children’s engagement and confidence in maths.

What will it involve?

Participation in three one-day workshops and completion of gap tasks between workshops.

What is the cost?

Free

Cover costs of up to £180 per day will be paid for teachers in their first two years of teaching.
